A 19-year-old female reported a sexual assault April 28 in the Simpson Living and Learning Center (6300 block of North Winthrop), officials said.

The incident was reported at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to Chicago Police Department (CPD) News Affairs officer Rocco Alioto.

Tim Love, the executive director of equity and compliance and Title IX coordinator at Loyola, said both the victim and alleged perpetrator are undergraduate students at Loyola. Alioto said the perpetrator was known to the victim.

Alioto said the victim went to Weiss Memorial Hospital following the incident.

Love said the report is currently under investigation and is going through to Loyola’s grievance process — the protocol followed by the university to address complaints against misconduct.

As a “protective,” non-punishing measure, the student accused has been temporarily removed from Loyola’s residence halls and other “restrictions” have been put in place, according to Love.

Because the matter is still under investigation, Love declined to give further information.

Alioto said Area North detectives are investigating the incident.

If anyone is in need of sexual assault resources, they can call the Loyola Sexual Assault Advocacy line at 773-494-3810. The National Sexual Assault Hotline is also available 24/7 at 800-656-4673.

Loyola students can report sexual misconduct to Title IX at 773-508-3733 or use the university’s Ethics Line reporting hotline, Loyola’s system for dealing with different complaints.
